About

My name is Dave and I’m a Canadian personal finance nerd.

Outside of my personal finance interests, I’m a father of four, an engineering manager, a woodworker, a tabletop gamer and an occasional gym rat.

As I’ve been approaching my own financial independence in middle age, I wanted to share my story and thoughts on the journey with others as a way of giving back to the community and hopefully help others along a similar road. For more on my own story see <here>.

Most of what I talk about is not new information. Many professionals and amateurs have come before me and established a wide body of information on personal finance. But as the saying goes – “personal finance is personal” – and everyone’s situation is different. So if my take on this body of knowledge and how I’ve applied it to my family help out a few people it’s all worth it.

While I’m pretty solid with analyzing data (decades in engineering does that to you), I’m not a certified financial planner (yet?) so I don’t offer actual planning advice. But I am open to helping people crunch their numbers with data analysis and projections. See for here more on those services.
